OMAHA, Neb. – Shelby Niewohner has decided to join her sister at the College of Saint Mary. Niewohner recently signed her letter of intent to continue her education and swimming career with the Flames.
Niewohner will be transferring from York College, where she was a member of the softball team. The daughter of Melvin and Susan Niewohner is a triplet and her sister Morgan just recently completed her freshman season at CSM.
"My sister attends College of Saint Mary and we are very close," Niewohner said. "I know that the two of us together will succeed and can challenge each other as we grow and strive for our future goals. I really like the family atmosphere of the swim team and the college. Coach (Cole) Malin was very supportive of my decision to swim."
Niewohner participated in softball, basketball and dance during high school at West Point Beemer and also swam with a club program. Besides athletics, she enjoys crocheting, watching movies, running, lifting and spending time with family. Her favorite sports hero is Lilly King.
Niewohner plans to study elementary and special education at CSM.
Coach Malin is excited to have her join the squad in the fall.
"It is not often that you can bring on two sisters, who are triplets," Malin said. "Shelby will be a great addition to the team. It is exciting to have both Shelby and Morgan on the team and will be a fun experience to watch both of them compete with each other.
"Shelby will add a lot of depth to our breaststroke events next season and her personality fits in perfectly with the team. I can't wait to see what she can do next season."
