Less than full strength, Flames dancers place 7th
SEWARD, Neb. – Facing some adversity, the College of Saint Mary competitive dance team placed seventh in the eight-team field on Saturday at the Concordia Invitational.
CSM finished with a team score of 71.16, just nine-hundredths of a point behind sixth-place Northwestern College (71.25). The top five finishers were Concordia (93.33), Midland University (92.16), Dordt University (89.58), Benedictine College (82.50) and Lewis-Clark State College (77.88), while Briar Cliff University (70.00) was eighth.
"Today wasn't our best performance,'' CSM Coach Jennifer Wasik said. "We are not at our best, physically or mentally. As we are in the thick of the season, we had an off week at practice as we're still pushing through injury and illness.''
Wasik said her team showed some resolve, with that adversity that's been thrown its way.
"Having to adjust our dance to account for Haley (Engleman) being out with pneumonia just on Wednesday, I was impressed with the team being adaptable and up for the challenge,'' she said. "I'm hoping we can get back to full strength and continue to make forward strides ahead of a busy weekend.''
CSM returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Northwestern Invitational.
