SEWARD, Neb. – College of Saint Mary's inability to handle Concordia University's full-court pressure was the difference on Wednesday night.
The 11th-rated Bulldogs forced 39 turnovers and ran past CSM 96-44 in Great Plains Athletic Conference basketball at Friedrich Arena.
"Turnovers killed us,'' CSM Coach Natalie Miller said. "We just weren't able to handle their pressure. They sped us up.''
The Flames (1-7 overall, 0-2 GPAC) turned it over 19 times in the first half, and Concordia (6-0, 2-0) led 47-18 at the intermission.
"I thought we had some stretches where we played some good defense, but again, our struggles handling the ball were the difference,'' Miller said.
Jai'La Porter led the Flames with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Madelyn Gaughen added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists. Kathryn Gaughen grabbed nine rebounds and Haley Debuse blocked four shots.
CSM is back on the road Saturday for another GPAC game in Forest City, Iowa, against Waldorf University at 2 p.m.
