Flames bowl well in season finale

TOPEKA, Kan. – The College of Saint Mary bowling team performed well Saturday at the KCAC Conference Championships. Unfortunately for the Flames, Morningside University bowled well too.

The Flames were eliminated from the tournament and saw their season come to an end.

CSM entered as the No. 7 seed out of eight teams competing in the championships. The Mustangs were the No. 2 seed.

The championships were set up as a single elimination bracket with a mega match format – which means the first team to two points advances. The first set was a team game and total pin fall earns the point. The second set was five Baker games and the third set – if necessary – was seven Baker games.

Morningside bested CSM 835 to 815 in the team games to earn the first point.

Hannah O'Neal led the Flames with a 212 game. Alexandria Ford rolled a 188, Madison Barnes fired a 162, Abigail Rosloviec had a 145 and Reagan Minor finished with a 108.

The Mustangs won the second point with a total pin fall of 874 in the five Baker games compared to CSM's 764. The Flames rolled games of 123, 155, 151, 143 and 192.

"The ladies bowled well averaging 163 for the team game and 152 for Bakers," CSM Coach Corrinne Johnson said. "Morningside just bowled better.

"For the season, I couldn't be happier with the ladies. We improved each tournament. We overcame some differences in the beginning but worked them out and came together stronger in the end. I'm looking forward to the fall and adding our new recruits into the mix."

*O'Neal was recognized at the event for being an All-KCAC Scholar-Athlete.
