CSM golfers sitting in third place after first day of home invite
OMAHA, Neb. – The seven teams at the CSM Spring Invite battled tough wind Wednesday at Tiburon Golf Club.
"The wind was definitely a challenge for all teams today," College of Saint Mary Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "Only seven players in the tournament shot in the 80s."
Concordia University leads the way in the two-day tournament. The Bulldogs shot a 359.
Northwestern College is just a stroke behind with 360 and the Flames are sitting in third with a team score of 370.
Nebraska Wesleyan University shot 381, Hastings College carded a 390, Doane University had 407 and Peru State College finished with 417.
"We have several teams in contention to win," Rodriguez said. "It's anyone's game at this point."
Mackenzie Loseke from Hastings and Claire Yunag from Northwestern are sitting on the top of the leaderboard with scores of 84.
Gabby Sinnett had CSM's best score with an 87 and sits in fifth place, while teammate Emily Faubel finished with an 88 and is currently in sixth. Alexa Piecko carded a 96, Torrance Loudner had a 99, Anna Moore scored 100, Avery Campbell finished with a 101, Erynn Milan had 102 and Samantha Doughty finished CSM's scoring with a 103.
"Gabby and Emily played well under the circumstances and did a great job leading the team," Rodriguez said. "I know the rest of the team is looking forward to redemption tomorrow."
Thursday's action begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start.
