Flames golfers dominate at Goette Fall Classic
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary swept team and individual honors on Monday in its own Matthew Goette Fall Classic at Tiburon Golf Club.
Among the seven teams entered, the CSM 'A' team placed first with a score of 353 and the CSM 'B' team took second with a 385. The other finishers were Nebraska Wesleyan University (388), the Peru State College 'A' team (400), Doane University (418), the Peru State 'B' team (462) and York University (467).
Individually, the Flames filled five of the top six positions on a day featuring windy conditions. Sophomore Victoria Farkas earned medalist honors with an 86, shooting 43 on both the Hammerhead and Mako courses.
Senior Emily Faubel placed second with an 87, while freshman Sofia Chavez ended fourth with an 88. Junior Katie Freeman was fifth with a 92 and junior Ritzy Dominguez was sixth, also shooting 92.
"We certainly didn't shoot our best, but we'll take a win!'' CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "I'm proud of how the team mentally endured in these conditions. Tiburon is already a difficult course. When you throw in 30 mph winds, it can turn into a beast.''
Also for the Flames 'A', Erika Headlee carded a 96. Other scorers for the Flames 'B' included Alana Vazquez (95), Frede Weiss (96), Anna Moore (102), Samantha Norris (107), Ana Wilson (118) and Kylie Gardner (123).
College of Saint Mary resumes its fall season on Sept. 26 & 27 at the Peru State Fall Invitational in Nebraska City at Table Creek Golf Course.
"We'll feed off this win and get ready for our next event,'' Rodriguez said.
