Flames 4th, Farkas 5th after first day in Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. – College of Saint Mary finished day one Monday at the two-day Kaitlyn Erickson/Doane Invite in fourth place among the 13 entries at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course.
Despite the solid start, CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said her team was capable of even more.
"The wind got the better of us today, along with a few silly mistakes,'' Rodriguez said. "We didn't play to our potential, but we've got another 18 holes at Pioneers tomorrow.''
The Flames shot 360 on Monday, trailing only Doane University (332), Hastings College (342) and the Doane 'B' team (348). Following CSM are Mount Marty University (363), Nebraska Wesleyan University (377), Dordt University (378), Concordia University (381), Peru State College (389), the Peru State 'B' (404), the Doane 'C' (417), Midland University (418) and York University (439).
Individually, Victoria Farkas ended day one in fifth place after a 41-43—84. Frede Weiss was next with a 46-44—90, good for 19th. Emily Faubel (46-47—93) and Katie Freeman (45-48—93) are tied for 24th, while Sofia Chavez is 32nd after a 46-50—96.
The Flames will play 18 more holes on Tuesday at a different site, Pioneers Golf Course.
