Brezenski signs to play soccer at CSM
OMAHA, Neb. – Libbie Brezenski is excited to follow in her mother's footsteps and attend College of Saint Mary. Brezenski recently signed her letter of intent to play for the Flames soccer team this fall.
The 5-3 forward/attacking midfielder is the daughter of Jon and Kristie Brezenski. She graduated from Scotus Central Catholic High School in the spring.
"I chose College of Saint Mary because of the wonderful nursing program," Brezenski said. "I love the home-away-from-home atmosphere. I have known Coach Jordan Irsik since I was 8 years old and have always wanted to play for her. And my mom also went to CSM."
Brezenski played soccer, volleyball and basketball throughout her time at Scotus. She racked up a lot of honors in soccer including: All-State, All-Nebraska, Academic All-State, Future of the Game Player from Nebraska Soccer Talk, Columbus Athlete of the Week, CCH Athlete of the Year and KLIR Athlete of the Year. Brezenski also broke two goal scoring records at Scotus Central Catholic for goals in a game and goals in a career.
She considers Carli Lloyd her favorite sports hero and says her hobbies off the soccer pitch include baking, dancing, cooking, photography, videography and journalism. She says her greatest sports moment to date was "getting a hat trick at the state tournament my junior year and celebrating with my sister in front of the student section."
Irsik is happy to have Brezenski playing for the Flames later this month.
"It is very exciting to me personally to have Libbie sign to become a Flame," Irsik said. "I have watched her grow up and become a special player. It means a lot to see her make the decision to come to CSM. The Brezenskis are an important soccer family in Nebraska and Libbie choosing to follow in her mom's footsteps here is awesome.
"On the field Libbie can have a big impact. She's fast, she scores goals and she's a leader. She is genuinely a great person who has a solid head and big heart. It says a lot about her on the field presence the number of scoring and career scoring records she broke this year after missing her freshman season. On top of that, she was a three-sport standout athlete, a top-notch student and a leader in the community. I'm so happy that she chose to be a Flame."
