CSM soccer has 0-0 tie with Doane on Senior Day

OMAHA, Neb. – There wasn't any scoring but there was still plenty to celebrate.

The College of Saint Mary soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Doane University Saturday afternoon in a Great Plains Athletic Conference contest.

The Flames recognized seniors Kylie Anderson, Reagan Boex, Katie Harold, Hayley Holden, Kaylie Ratzlaff, Jessica Slater, Alexis Vodicka and Abbey Wilson after the contest.

Saturday's contest was a physical game in dreary, drizzly conditions. Doane outshot the Flames 9-6 in the contest.

Alivia Schade had five saves for the Flames, while Virginia Johnson tallied two saves for the Tigers.

The offensive struggles continued for CSM as Saturday's game was the fourth straight game that the Flames have failed to score.

"It was a physical game," CSM Coach Jordan Irsik said. "We had opportunities to score but we just aren't finding the shot. We got a much-needed point in conference. Games like today are tough and we need to keep fighting.

"It was nice to recognize our senior class. This group has shown so much perseverance. I call them the covid group because they missed a lot of their high school senior season and also part of their freshman college season. The leadership they've shown has translated to our team. Everything they've earned they've worked for."

With the tie, CSM is now 4-2-3 in the GPAC and 6-3-5 overall, while Doane is 2-4-2, 3-6-3.

CSM returns to action Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Hastings College.
