HASTINGS, Neb. – College of Saint Mary Soccer Coach Jordan Irsik was pleased with her team's performance Wednesday night despite the loss.
Hastings College defeated the Flames 3-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest.
CSM scored first in the night game as Marissa Ring found the back of the net at 9:24. Teammate Kylie Anderson earned the assist.
But the Broncos tied it at 39:29 with a goal from Jesse Chartier, assisted by Dekota Schubert.
"This one is a tough pill to swallow," Irsik said. "We were really playing well in the first half and that showed in the score and in the stats. Unfortunately, a mistake cost us in the tying goal."
The teams went into the intermission tied at 1-1 but the second half belonged to the Broncos.
Hastings scored at 49:06 with a goal from Sophia Lee, assisted by Schubert. And then Hastings scored again at 71:53 as Naomi Pedroza found the back of the net with an assist from Lee.
"I thought coming out of the half that we'd be able to bounce back," Irsik said. "Hastings made some adjustments and we couldn't get the same energy in the second half because of that.
"Overall, we played very well. We need to take that level of play going into these last regular season games. Our team is playing at a high level and we're going to continue to improve to put games like these away."
Hastings outshot the Flames 10-6 in the first half and 9-0 in the second half.
Alivia Schade was the goalkeeper for CSM and she finished with six saves.
The Flames drop to 4-3-3 in the GPAC and 6-4-5 overall. Hastings improves to 7-1-2, 12-1-2. College of Saint Mary returns to action Saturday with an 11 a.m. home contest against University of Jamestown.
