DUBUQUE, Iowa – College of Saint Mary struggled to create an abundance of scoring opportunities and dropped a 3-0 nonconference soccer decision to Clarke University on Saturday at Burrows Field.
"We showed our youth today,'' CSM Coach Jamison Parkhill said. "However, what we need to be better at is something we can improve. It was a very productive weekend.''
The Pride outshot CSM 16-5, including a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal. Clarke (1-0-1) also enjoyed a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
For the Flames (0-2-0), Citlali Prado was the lone player to generate multiple shot opportunities with two.
"Even though the results didn't go our way, we learned a lot about ourselves,'' Parkhill said. "We have two days of training before we go again.''
The CSM coach credited sophomore Abby Ostergaard and freshman Izzie Kadavy with outstanding efforts in the contest.
Clarke received goals from Audrey McKenna (33rd minute), Jayden Black (49') and Elena Kapparos (71'), and is a program on the rise. The Pride hosted its first postseason match in program history last season, finishing 12-4-3.
CSM will hit the field Wednesday for its home opener, taking on Graceland University at 5 p.m.
