College of Saint Mary gained some valuable experience over the weekend, competing in the UNO Tri-Meet on Friday and the Spire Relays in Lansing, Kan., on Saturday.

CSM split the triangular at UNO, beating Iowa Western Community College 135-100 and losing to the host NCAA Division I Mavericks 235-51.

"We had huge time drops from our first meet two weeks ago,'' CSM Coach Liz Germonprez said. "We love racing at UNO, and used great competition to propel us to numerous season-best swims.''

Highlights included personal bests from Kylee Brown and Skylar Ned in the 1,000 freestyle, Kylee Jo Farson's crowd-pleasing, "fantastic finish'' against Iowa Western in the 200 freestyle, and Hannah Ferguson's strong fourth-place effort in the 100 butterfly.

The Flames were back on the road early Saturday for the Spire Relays, where they finished second in the four-team race. The host University of Saint Mary won with a score of 220, followed by CSM (120), Dordt University (72) and Midland University (28).

This meet was an all-relay meet, with several races that aren't contested in conventional meets.

Highlights included Jaidyn Vanschoiack clocking a personal best in her 100 free leading off the 400 free relay, and the relay team of Kylee Jo Farson, Isabella Promes, Hannah Steinmetz and Kylee Brown winning the 500 crescendo relay.

"In both meets, Flames swimmers are second-to-none in sportsmanship and on-deck team support!'' Germonprez said. "Great swims in heavy training with two swim doubles this week and adding weight in strength.''
