Truong wins twice, but Hastings drops Flames
OMAHA, Neb. – Despite a 5-2 Great Plains Athletic Conference tennis loss to Hastings College on Saturday at Genesis Westroads, College of Saint Mary enjoyed several positive moments.
One of them came at No. 2 doubles, where Carolyna Truong and Miranda Swanson of CSM battled past Cara Ansbach and Lexi Benson, 7-5.
"Great showing at No. 2 doubles!'' CSM Coach Mike Johnson said. "They were evenly matched with their opponents, but stuck to basics and got it done.''
The Flames, who forfeited No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, won two of the five contested singles matches.
At No. 1 singles, Iyaanah Pardiwalla of CSM edged Josline Carter, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.
"Iyaanah gutted out a nice win in a tight, third-set tiebreaker,'' Johnson said. "It's good to see Iyaanah come out on top in a close match like that.''
At No. 3 singles, Truong handled Paige Willcoxon 6-1, 6-2.
"Carolyna played great,'' Johnson said. "Two wins for her today at singles and doubles!''
