Flames cruise past Mount Marty in tennis
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary rolled past Mount Marty University 6-1 on Saturday in a Great Plains Athletic Conference tennis dual at Genesis Westroads.
The Lancers brought only five players.
"Mount Marty, shorthanded, gave us a more manageable match in conference play,'' CSM Coach Mike Johnson said. "We secured the doubles point with a pair of strong wins.''
At No. 1 doubles, Callista Uchill and Noel Moreno beat Maria Azul Medina Lobos and Camila Lopez, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Abrianna Reynosa and Yana Gupta defeated Alexandra Salazar and Kayla Marsh, 6-1.
In singles play, Azul Medina Lobos of Mount Marty edged Moreno 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 at No. 1; Iyannah Pardiwalla of CSM handled Salazar 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2; Gupta of CSM defeated Lopez 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3; Carolyna Truong of CSM breezed past Marsh 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4; and Darece Van Auken of CSM registered an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Brooklyn McNac at No. 5.
"Starting singles up 2-0 allowed us to stay in control, with positions 2-5 taking care of business,'' Johnson said. "Noel Moreno battled at No. 1 and continues to gain valuable experience in tight match situations.''
The Flames improved to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in GPAC play, while Mount Marty dropped to 0-13, 0-6.
CSM returns to action Sunday for Senior Day at Genesis Westroads, taking on Midland University in another GPAC match at 6 p.m.
