Caspersen 8th vs. D-I competition
LINCOLN, Neb. – Claire Caspersen represented the NAIA well on Saturday.
As the lone NAIA athlete among the 15 shot put entries in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, the CSM senior placed eighth among her NCAA Division I competition, with a heave of 14.51 meters, or 47 feet, 7 ¼ inches.
The annual meet wrapped a two-day run at the Devaney Center Indoor Track on Saturday. The only athletes finishing ahead of Caspersen were six from the University of Nebraska and one from the University of Cincinnati.
Also Saturday in Lincoln, Savannah Horne placed 24th in the 200 in 26.31.
Mikaiya Rodgers and Kellesse Heard also competed in the meet on Friday, with Rodgers making the long jump final, finishing ninth at 5.21 meters (17-1¼).
"All performed well under the bright lights of Devaney Center's track, with Caspersen and Rodgers able to call themselves Husker Invite finalists,'' CSM Coach Steve Gordon Jr. said. "It was a unique experience for our young ladies to participate in a very prestigious meet.''
The Flames return to action Friday and Saturday at the GPAC Championships in Mitchell, S.D.
