Okafor wins triple jump at Prairie Wolf

LINCOLN, Neb. – An event victory and a pair of program records were among the outstanding performances turned in by College of Saint Mary on Friday in the Prairie Wolf Invite hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University at the Devaney Center.

"We fared extremely well in one of the 'cathedrals' of our sport,'' CSM Coach Steve Gordon Jr. said. "At one time, this was the most advanced indoor facility in the world, so it's a privilege to get to compete and perform there.

"Sprints and jumps continued to be consistent at the top of the conference performances, and the distance crew made huge moves this week to rewrite the program records.''

Friday's winner for CSM was Gozie Okafor, who snagged the triple jump with a mark of 11.50 meters (37 feet, 8¾ inches).

The program records came from Imani Skanes, who placed second in the 60 meters in 7.67, breaking her own time of 7.74; Kara Muller, who finished second in the mile in 5:11.87, eclipsing her own record of 5:15.02; and Rayna Apley, who was seventh in the 60 hurdles in 9.80, matching her previous mark from the meet at Doane.

Skanes also placed second in the long jump at 5.62 (18-5¼).

Fourths went to Kiley Craft in the mile (5:21.06) and Apley in the high jump at 1.53 (5- ¼).

Taking fifth were Allison Isaacson in the pole vault at 3.02 (9-10¾) and Mikaiya Rodgers in the long jump at 5.23 (17-2).

Grabbing sixths were Olivia Elbert in the 800 (2:19.92) and Josie Karnik in the mile (5:22.35).

"True standouts this week were Kara Muller and milers, with a new program record and a handful of top 10 PRs, and Imani Skanes with a massive PR and program-best in the 60,'' Gordon said.
