Muller wins twice, Elbert takes 1,000 at Doane

CRETE, Neb. – Kara Muller was a double winner and Olivia Elbert captured the 1,000 meters on Saturday to highlight College of Saint Mary's participation in the Fred Beile Classic indoor track & field meet at Fuhrer Field House.

"We had a solid weekend overall,'' CSM Coach Steve Gordon Jr. said. "At this point in the season, we begin to analyze performances, putting the young ladies in the best events and the most beneficial positions for their success. Their success is the team's success in the end.''

Muller captured the mile in 5:16.28 and the 3,000 in 10:59.90 for the Flames. Elbert claimed top honors in the 1,000 in 3:01.13, earning an NAIA national 'B' standard in the process.

Runner-up finishes went to Mackenzie Stanley in the 400 (1:02.80), Josie Karnik in the 800 (2:27.97), Kiley Craft in the mile (5:18.99) and Syd'ney Birch-George in the weight throw in 15.68 meters (51 feet, 5½ inches).

Placing third were Ava Hilger in the 400 (1:04.31) and Mira Fosmer in the 600 (1:41.93). Allison Isaacson placed fourth in the pole vault in 3.10 meters (10-2), while fifths went to Lilly Nelson in the 400 (1:04.95) and Kayla Briggs in the triple jump in a season-best 10.84 meters (35-6¾).

Taking sixth were Nelson in the 200 (28.04), Corinne Mead in the mile (5:25.93) and Briggs in the long jump in 5.18 meters (17-0).

"The distance crew had a good day,'' Gordon said. "The milers had a good day, collectively. Some of them tested new race tactics and going out as frontrunners and mentally challenging themselves.

The CSM coach mentioned Birch-George's strong day in the ring, along with Briggs in the jumps and Isaacson in the pole vault.

"Allison has shown great consistency in the past few weeks,'' he said.

In the 60, Stanley set a PR of 8.08 in the prelims before a seventh-place finish in the finals at 8.23.

"Traditionally a 400-meter specialist, Mackenzie is showing herself to be a factor in the short sprints,'' he said. "Her previous best in the 60 prior to this season was 8.46.''
