Friesen signs with CSM for track & field
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary is excited to announce that Micah Friesen has signed to continue her track & field career with the school in the 2026-27 academic year.
Freisen is a senior at Fairbury High School in Fairbury, Neb. She's the daughter of Jake and Alicia Friesen.
"Micah is a fantastic addition to our team,'' said Derek Fey, an assistant coach with the CSM track & field program who works with the middle-distance and distance runners. "She primarily is a middle-distance runner, and she will add a lot of depth to our 800-meter group. But she is very versatile, and I expect her to contribute in many ways.''
At Fairbury, Friesen has participated in four years of volleyball, basketball and track & field. As a senior in basketball, she earned second-team all-conference honors and set a school record with 15 field goals in a game. She earned academic all-state honors in all three sports.
Friesen's favorite sports hero is Sydney McLaughlin. Winning the conference track meet in her freshman and sophomore years was her greatest sports moment to date. She enjoys reading, pickleball and lifting weights in her spare time.
Friesen chose CSM because it "has an accredited nursing program that fits with my goal of obtaining a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). I enjoyed my time with the coaching staff and their commitment to their athletes.''
Fey said Friesen will fit in nicely with the team.
"Running in the low 2:20s is going to set her up really well when she enters our program,'' he said. "Really looking forward to having her compete with an already really strong group of middle-distance runners.''
