Elbert, Henderson win; four more program records fall

LINCOLN, Neb. – Olivia Elbert and Carly Henderson earned event victories and represented two of the four College of Saint Mary program records that fell on Friday at the Prairie Wolf Invite hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University on the Woody Greeno Track.

"As coaches, our job is to critique and analyze, to teach and develop the person in front of you, in the moment,'' CSM Coach Steve Gordon Jr. said. "But at the end of the day, we take a step back and there is often the realization, 'Wow, we actually had a very good day!' That is what this meet was – quietly a very good day as program records were elevated and a there was a rewriting of our event top 10 lists."

In the 400 meters, Elbert topped a field of 10 in a school-record 59.81, which is the first sub-one-minute clocking in CSM history.

"Olivia showed her versatility, dropping down from her normal 800 specialty to set a new program record in the 400,'' Gordon said.

In the 3,000 steeplechase, Henderson shaved nearly 20 seconds off her program record, besting a modest field of three in 11:24.26 "in a sort of time-trial, basically running solo by frontrunning the entire race.''

The other program records fell in the 1,500 and the discus.

In the 1,500, Kara Muller ran a program-best 4:44.73 to place second in the 29-woman field with the second-fastest time in the GPAC this season.

In the discus, it became a program-record battle between teammates. Rylie Preister launched a new program record in the discus of 38.44 meters (126 feet, 1 inch) – for about 20 minutes. That's when Clare Ullery reclaimed the program record with a personal best of her own, 39.15 (128-5). Ullery placed 15th and Preister was 18th.

"Throwers continue to set a new standard for themselves,'' Gordon said.

Allison Isaacson enjoyed an outstanding day, setting big personal bests in the long jump and triple jump. She placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.50 (37-8¾) and fifth in the long jump at 5.31 (17-5¼). She moved to No. 2 on the alltime CSM list in the triple jump.

CSM had two other runner-up finishes: Imani Skanes in the 100 (12.35) and Mira Fosmer in the 5,000 (20:16.99).

In the 200, Ava Hilger set a lifetime best by nearly half a second with a fifth-place time of 25.79, moving into second place on the alltime CSM outdoor list.

Two others had third-place finishes: Gozie Okafor in the triple jump at 11.12 (36-5¾) and Yenifer Juan Jesus in the 5,000 in 20:31.30.
