Johnson signs to join CSM volleyball program
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary is pleased to announce that Maleigha Johnson has signed to continue her volleyball career with the school in the 2026-27 academic year.
Johnson is a 2024 graduate of Kearney Catholic High School in Kearney, Neb. She spent the last two years at Central Community College in Columbus, Neb., and will be a junior at CSM. She is the daughter of Jerred and Amy Johnson.
"Maleigha is an experienced player who will help us in the passing and defensive part of our game,'' CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. "She has a great understanding of the game and is a tough competitor. She fits into what we want the culture of our program to be!''
At Kearney Catholic, Johnson participated in volleyball and soccer for four years. She was a member of a pair state runner-up teams in volleyball.
At Central, she was a contributor on a national-qualifying team as a freshman, which is her greatest sports moment to date. As a sophomore, she earned third-team All-Iowa Community College Athletic Conference honors after leading the team with 446 digs. She also was named to the ICCAC All-Tournament Team.
In her spare time, Johnson enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to the lake, baking cookies and fishing.
She said her visit to CSM included nothing but positive vibes.
"I chose CSM because when I toured, it felt like home,'' she said. "The OT (occupational therapy) program is also very good, which is what I was looking for when looking at schools. It is also close to home, which means I can see family and friends, which is really big for me!''
