Phillips signs with CSM for cross country, track
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary is excited to announce the signing of Layla Phillips, who will join the school's cross country and track and field programs in the 2026-27 academic year.
Phillips is a senior at Papillion La Vista High School and the daughter of Michael and Sarah Phillips.
"I'm super excited that Layla is joining our team,'' CSM Cross Country Coach Derek Fey said. "She started running cross country two years ago, and in that short time became a two-time, Class A state medalist. She has a ton of potential.''
Phillips also competed in softball for two years with the Monarchs. This will be her fourth year on the track and field team.
In her spare time, Phillips enjoys art, reading and watching movies. She has been an All-Metro Conference academic honoree.
Phillips said she chose CSM because she "was familiar with the track and knew some of the girls attending the school.''
Fey said she will be a welcome addition to College of Saint Mary.
"Above her athletic success, I'm excited for the competitive spirit she brings,'' he said. "Our culture is shifting into an extremely competitive program and it's clear she will fit right in.''
