Smith signs with CSM for cross country, track & field
OMAHA, Neb. – College of Saint Mary is pleased to announce that Zoey Smith has signed to continue her cross country and track & field careers with the school in the 2026-27 academic year.
The daughter of Ben and Amy Smith, she is a senior at Ashland-Greenwood High School in Ashland, Neb.
Derek Fey, the head cross country coach and an assistant with the track program, said CSM is getting a quality individual.
"Zoey has been Ashland's top runner for a couple years now,'' he said. "She's really been improving. She definitely has a lot of potential at the next level.''
Smith has been a three-time state cross country qualifier at Ashland-Greenwood along with a state track qualifier in the 3,200 meters. Her sports hero is her father, "who has been my first and best coach I have ever had,'' she said.
In her spare time, Smith enjoys reading, journaling, Bible study and baking.
"Much like the other seven who have signed for next fall, her coaches all say that we are getting the best kid,'' Fey said. "She will be a great fit for our culture.''
Smith said there are many reasons why CSM felt like the right place for her.
"I chose CSM because of the positive people that reflected the college experience and the fun atmosphere,'' she said. "I especially favored their cross country program, and it ended up being the perfect fit.''
