Red-hot Doane runs past Flames

CRETE, Neb. – A red-hot Doane University squad was too much for College of Saint Mary on Wednesday, beating the Flames 106-65 in Great Plains Athletic Conference basketball action at the Haddix Center.

Doane sank 43 of 76 (56.6%) on all field goals, including a scorching 15 of 25 (60.0%) from beyond the 3-point line. Keeleigh Knobbe made 5 of 6 from 3-point range and scored 23 points, while Mattea Kassebaum added 22.

"Kassebaum killed us with her drives, but then they lit us up at the 3-point line when we tried to help,'' CSM Coach Natalie Miller said. "They're just a very disciplined team.''

Doane, fresh off a 73-68 overtime win on Saturday over national No. 1 Dordt University, improved to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in GPAC play. CSM dropped to 3-10 and 2-5.

For the Flames, Madelyn Gaughen shared game-high scoring with Knobbe with 23 points. She hit 9 of 15 from the field, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range. Jai'La Porter added 14 points and five rebounds.

"G and Jai'La both had great games, and Madi (Madison Keil) did a good job guarding the post,'' Miller said. "We just weren't aggressive enough on either end.''

Haley Debuse added 11 points and Madison Keil had eight.

CSM returns to action Saturday with a 2 p.m. GPAC road game against Dakota Wesleyan University at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.
