Bellevue shuts out Flames, 5-0
OMAHA, Neb. – Prescillia Casu scored twice and assisted on another as Bellevue University blanked College of Saint Mary 5-0 on Wednesday in nonconference soccer at the CSM complex.
The Bruins improved to 5-0-2 by controlling possession and exploiting openings in the Flames' defense.
"We kind of let them do whatever they wanted in the middle of the park,'' CSM Coach Jamison Parkhill said. "They were just more clinical, and they were attacking balls in the final third.''
Bellevue outshot CSM 22-4, including a 17-2 edge in shots on goal, to drop CSM to 1-6-0 on the season.
"It's frustrating being one and six at this point, because I don't believe we're a one-and-six team,'' Parkhill said. "There are things that we need to fix and get better at. Limiting mistakes in the back is a big one.''
The Bruins grabbed a 2-0 lead at the intermission on goals by Aileen Perez in the seventh minute and Casu in the 20th. Casu scored again in the 53rd minute, then assisted Katrina Avila in the 54th. Baylee Tex completed the scoring in the 62nd minute.
Parkhill did find some individual performances that deserved mention.
"Reese Johnson, her second half was probably one of the better halves I've seen of her,'' he said. "Devon Koyle, she's just been consistent all year, doing exactly what we've asked. I thought Izzy Kadavy was a nuisance today up top. She should have had one.
"There were good things throughout, but I think we gave up way too many shots.''
Now the focus shifts to Great Plains Athletic Conference play, and it begins Saturday at 2 p.m. in Forest City, Iowa, against Waldorf University.
"The first season is done,'' Parkhill said. "The nonconference is over, and now we have to focus on conference. We're starting zero and zero now.
"We know what we have to fix, and it's down to us, it's down to myself. I have to be better to get better out of the girls. We're at a pretty low point right now, but again, we have to reset and just focus now solely on conference.''
