Benedictine blanks Flames, 4-0

ATCHISON, Kan. – A talented Benedictine College unit put the clamps on College of Saint Mary Wednesday with a 4-0 nonconference soccer victory at Legacy Field.

The Ravens (3-1-0) tallied three times in the first half and went on to outshoot the Flames 18-2, including a 9-1 edge in shots on goal.

"We got outplayed by effort,'' CSM Coach Jamison Parkhill said. "We had some moments of brilliance, but Benedictine was just quicker to the ball.''

Benedictine finished 13-7-1 last season and was a national qualifier, falling to Concordia University (Neb.) in the first round, 2-0.

On Wednesday, the Ravens got goals from four different players: Christine Znidarsic (12th minute), Payton Vogelbacher (23'), Rowan Yows (39') and Mara Loughman (63').

"We need to do better by starting out quicker and playing on the front foot,'' Parkhill said.

Parkhill praised the effort of freshman Devon Koyle.

"She had a good game,'' he said. "She was effective on our press.''

Reese Johnson and Emma Gallagher managed the only shots for CSM.

The Flames (1-4-0) will regroup and return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a home match against Tabor College (2-1-0).
