SIOUX CITY, Iowa – College of Saint Mary couldn't generate the same magic it found in Wednesday's upset win over Hastings College, dropping a 2-0 decision on Saturday to Morningside University in Great Plains Athletic Conference soccer play at Olsen Stadium.
"Not our day today,'' CSM Coach Jamison Parkhill said. "We were our own enemy today.''
The Mustangs scored in the eighth minute on a goal by Trinay Garcia and in the 55th minute on a goal by Melissa Tsatiris.
"Both goals were off our errors that we should have done better on,'' Parkhill said. "We panicked in key moments.''
Morningside (9-1-3 overall, 6-1-1 GPAC) created considerably more opportunities, finishing with a 19-4 advantage in shots, including a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Bella Olsen and Abby Ostergaard had the two shots on goal for the Flames.
CSM dropped to 5-10-0 overall and 4-4-0 in GPAC play, with matches remaining against Doane University, Dakota Wesleyan University and Mount Marty University.
"We can take positives that three of our four losses are to the top three teams in the GPAC right now and we didn't play our best,'' Parkhill said. "We have three matches to put ourselves in a good position for postseason. We know we can do better and be better in those moments. Focus is all on Doane.''
The Flames' next match is at Doane on Wednesday, set for 3 p.m.
